Colonoscopy
What is a Colonoscopy?A colonoscopy is a test during which your specialist or surgeon passes a soft flexible camera (known as an endoscope) into your rectum and checks your entire large intestine.
What Should I Do the Day Before My Colonoscopy? It is recommended you stay on a clear liquid diet. Examples of clear liquid include apple juice, grape juice, peach juice, lemonade, Gatorade, and clear soups (no meat, noodles, or vegetables). It is important to stay hydrated and to NOT eat any solids after your colon preparation is complete.
What Should I Do After My Colonoscopy?Make sure you get plenty of rest! It is recommended that you do not drive, work, run errands, cook, or make any important decisions as the anesthesia will still be in your system. Make sure you have a driver who can take you home after your procedure. Finally, make sure you read the discharge instructions to know what you will be able to eat and when you can start taking any medications that you stopped taking before your preparation.
