Rubber Band Ligation
This is a quick, in-office procedure that cuts off blood supply to hemorrhoids, causing them to shrink. The rubber band is placed around the neck of the hemorrhoid causing it to die and fall off within 1-3 days. No anesthesia is required! Lubricant and numbing medication are used for patient comfort and procedure is done in a few quick seconds.
*Please Note: For severe external hemorrhoids, patients will be referred out for surgical removal with a specialist. Banding procedures are strictly for internal hemorrhoids.

FAQ's

How do I know if I have a hemorrhoid?
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in or around the rectum and anus. They are extremely common and can cause a variety of symptoms.
Common Signs of Hemorrhoids
✓ Bright red blood on the toilet paper or in the toilet bowl

✓ Pain or discomfort when sitting
✓ A feeling that the rectum isn't completely empty after a bowel movement
✓ Mucus discharge or difficulty keeping the area clean
Picture
Is it an external or an internal hemorrhoid?
External Hemorrhoids
  • Located outside the anus
  • Can cause pain, itching, and swelling
  • May develop a painful blood clot (thrombosed hemorrhoid)
Internal Hemorrhoids
  • Located inside the rectum
  • Often painless
  • Most commonly cause bleeding
  • May protrude during bowel movements
When Should I See a Specialist?
You should schedule an evaluation if you experience:
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Persistent pain or itching
  • A lump that doesn't go away
  • Symptoms lasting longer than a few days
  • Hemorrhoids that keep coming back
Many conditions can mimic hemorrhoids, including fissures, polyps, and other colorectal conditions. A colonoscopy will be performed first to rule out other conditions.
